![]() I was delighted to discover that some of the band’s rarer material had become more widely available recently. I even managed to catch the band on tour in 1980 at Bradford University, sharing the bill with Bruford, which was a particular joy. This was exciting music, which took me to places that Prog rock didn’t, and I loved it (and it took me into the multi-faceted realms of more conventional jazz, too). I was quickly blown away by the virtuosity, energy and inventiveness of Messrs Collins, Goodsall, Lumley Jones & Pert, with later contributions from Robinson, Giblin & Clark. ![]() It was through this route that I had my first real encounter with Jazz Rock Fusion, in the guise of Phil Collins’ solo project, ‘Brand X’. ![]() Note that "Birdman" is given a single entry in the polls despite being split up on CD remasters and streaming services, since it was considered a single track on the original LP and listed as such.As a teenager I was a big fan of Genesis (and still am), and as a budding, slightly obsessive completist I sought out the solo material and extra-mural projects of band members as well as the group recordings (as much as my limited income at the time would allow). Another poll goes up, this time with one less song. ![]() Vote out your LEAST FAVORITE song from the album the poll is representing.Īt the end of the usually 48 hour voting period, the song with the most votes is removed from the list. If you feel confused, this is how this works:Įvery Monday, Wednesday and Friday, a poll will come out. It's too bad this duo never made another album together. It sounds very much like a Crim album (in fact, Robert Fripp even said that it could've been half of Wake had the original lineup not broken up), and "Flight of the Ibis" even used the melody originally written for "Cadence and Cascade". Written by Ian McDonald and Michael Giles (but also featuring other musicians such as Peter Giles and Peter Sinfield), this album was recorded very shortly after the two had left King Crimson (and immediately after the release of In the Wake of Poseidon). ![]() It's been a while since the GGF survivor ended, so I figured I'd start another one since I recently listened to McDonald and Giles and really enjoyed it. ![]()
